Durango and Silverton Railroad
Constructed in 1881, the Durango and Silverton Railroad was used to transport silver and gold from the San Juan Mountains and is now a popular tourist attraction in Durango. Visitors can tour two museums, the Silverton Freight Museum and the Durango Museum.1 Visitors can ride the steam-powered locomotive that passes through the San Juan National Forest and numerous canyons allowing you to relive the experience of traveling the Durango and Silverton Railroad.
